Running face-first to splatter onto garments hanging crookedly on the wall,
flurries of blue in an otherwise blank space
a duet with a glitter-filled egg.
Cobalt reflects the vibrant, bold lusciousness that I crave in a gender-confused body I constantly scrutinize and critique; a body that doesn’t always feel like home. Moving through time from my childhood in Japan to the future, I oscillate between portraits of self, attempting to succeed in the impossible task of existing at multiple ages, and multiple identities, all at one moment.
With its aesthetic minimalism and gentle provocation, this solo encourages audiences to harness the vibrancy that we each carry within ourselves, striking a chord with anyone on a journey to radical self-acceptance.
If I cover myself in blue, perhaps I won’t feel so blue anymore?
